Wow, it really seems like this site has just died. Not a single new post in about a month, and the last one to make a post was myself.

I thought the Facebook page would get people talking, but nothing.

I guess Montana Gaming is just non-existant.

Does anyone even come here to look anymore? Nobody's got anything to say?

I think a lot of people come here when there's a major event happening. Making a facebook page I think just transferred the activity from here to there.

And also many people post here if they want to find a group, or find players or something. And it looks like it's possible that the people who come here already have a group mostly...

The problem is, there's not even any activity on the Facebook page. So it's not like any activity transferred from here to there. I was hoping it would get more people to join the Facebook page, but pretty much the only people there are people I've invited. Only a couple of other people have signed up on it.

And if people have groups already, they could at least post updates or something about their games. Or start some threads to talk about events or situations that might have occured in their game group or game session. This IS a discussion board...people should be discussing things.

I didn't even realize there WAS a Montana Gamers Facebook page lol...just searched for it and send a join request.

But unfortunately yes, when the site ported over to the new program, we lost alot of activity.

Well, we did have a bit of activity from the UM LARP folks, but they appear to have moved off to their own private/separate methods of communicating a year or so back, so I'm going to remove the Larp section.

Aside from that, it always was a core of about a dozen people who did 95% of the posting here. A few of those folks have wandered off, such as Stone from Helena. But, yes, I did have to finally dump the old CMS that was the basis for the site, as it just kept getting hacked way too often. At least this one is keeping out the russian and chinese spammers.

Hey, since you've visiting here, JRoch, did something happen to the site's ability to remember users? You had fixed it so that I didn't have to sign on every time I visited but I've noticed in the last week or so that every time I've come here, I've had to sign in, even if I click on the "remember me" button.

Did something hiccup in the fix?

I've just turned off session tracking, which should mean that the site has reverted to using persistent cookies. Before Facebook changed its back-end API handling the FB Connect auto-logon was working pretty well, but I'm guessing a lot of people feel sketchy about using their FB credentials to auth against 3rd party sites. Regardless, it quit working, so we're back to local auth only.

Hopefully these changes will prevent the continual need to logon with every visit.

Well, lovely. It appears that the mechanism that sends out emails and whatnot is not working. There were a few sign-ups in the past couple months that didn't pop as notifications to me, either. Looks like I'll actually have to do some work on it and verify it's working properly.

Okay, got it. Sign-ups are now working correctly again.

I manually approved three people, but they likely didn't get the approval message, since the emailer wasn't working properly.

Well, it's been a while, but I'm back and I promise to be nicer this time. I moved away for 3 years, but I came running back as soon as I could find a job. I hope it's not as dead as this thread is insinuating as I still enjoy gaming!

Genessey, are you by chance the same person that used to live under the brothers near Sentinel? (how's that for privacy protection through vagueness?! )

Hey, JRoch, you might want to post something about this on the Facebook page to let anyone there know that they're now approved to post on this site. I'm betting at least one of them was a friend of mine, as he said he signed up here but I never saw a post from him here.

So maybe mentioning that if people signed up here in the last however-long-it-was, they can now post here and any new sign ups will be tended to in a much more prompt manner.

Oh, and I can attest to the fact that the site still isn't "remembering me". I still have to log on every time I visit.

That's very odd, as I only have to log on every couple weeks.

What browser are you using, and have you configured it to clear your history/cookies every time you exit?

I've been fiddling with this on my home PC - if I log in from the Home Page I stay logged in for some time. If I log in from the forum page I must log in again next time I come to the site. It appears the "remember me" button is checkable but doesn't function on the forum portion.

Typical... the forum is add-on software for the underlying CMS, but I guess the integration isn't as tight as it should be. In wonder if I can turn off the in-forum login and mod the site design to use the main CMS to logon rather than passing it through the forum plugin.

Sigh. I'd hoped I would quit having to tinker with underlying code by going to a more mainstream CMS. I'll go check if there are updated versions of the plugins I'm using as well... maybe they've fixed some of this stuff in the past half year since I rebuilt.
